Stop setting dates of parent when child dates are set.... Please!

I have to speak at a convention in October, so I set the date of the parent to that specific date. Then I started adding child items with sub tasks already for next week. I noticed the datae of the parent changed to next week, so went back to change the parent's date to October. Guess what? The dates of the child items are in October now…
